International Women's Day 2022: Commission proposes EU-wide rules to combat violence against women a
The Commission's proposal for a Directive is the beginning of a long process of decision-making at EU level. The European Parliament must put all its political weight behind it and give a positive Opinion, but in the end it is the Council of Ministers representing the governments of the 26 EU Member States who must adopt it before it becomes EU law to be enforced in the Member States. Α positive decision by the Council is, by no means, guaranteed, and needs continuous lobbying and pressure from civil society in order to happen.
